History: The Mariners were yet another American League (AL) “replacement” expansion franchise (the AL previously put teams in Washington and Kansas City to replace teams who had moved). Although the M’s struggled in their early years, one bright spot was the acquisition of future Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry, who won his 300th game with the club.
